Here's a question to think about....

Why is it that governments and medical professionals won't let you leave this world when you have: no money, no sex, no partner, no career, no family, health problems, no life?

I can see them passing laws for
non-professionals not to assist the person wishing to leave this world, since there could be abuse on that level, but other than that why do they force you to stick around to suffer?

I can see it if you are clinical depressed since you don't have full control of your mind.

I can see it if you are going to physically hurt someone, like driving over a bridge and landing on passing boat.

So why can't the governments just stay out of it except for the above mentioned points?

Warren, suicidal ideation and clinical depression are equivalent(absent imminent death from terminal illness.) If you are not simply waxing hypothetically here, but are fidning a way to passively communicate suicidal thoughts and feelings, you should be receiving medical care.

Saying you shoud be able to just kill yourself absent clinical depresion, is a falacy. It is like saying you should be able to be born with pain or blood. One is inherent in the other.

All the best and take care of yourself.

Master Tom,

The reason for the blog was they are going to a movie about Dr. Kevorkian and it got me thinking as I believe in suicide.

Also, if this was a call for help I would be long dead before any would arrive in this province.

When and if the time comes, I will just do it.

Thanks for your views though.

I am 100% in favor of assisted suicide for the terminally ill or someone who has no quality of life because of injury or disease. In my opinion, which bears absolutely no weight, it shouldn't be a matter open to discussion or debate.

Assisted suicide for depression or clinical depression, not so much. With treatment the person suffering can once again enjoy all that life has to offer.

I goofed when I said that someone with clinical depression should be allowed they shouldn't be allowed to commit suicide. I typed that reason wrong.

Thanks Buffalo for pointing it out clearer to me and I guess that is what Master Tom meant to...

For a terminal illness, it is one thing. For what you have listed above it is, as has been said by many: a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

On the other hand, one could easily argue that life belongs to the individual; that they should have the right to do with it as they see fit.

Would not it be more civilized to provide the means for a dignified, peaceful, sure exit that posed a minimum of fuss, muss and bother to third parties?

My Dear Friend

Those that are abled body and mind do not need the permission of Governments to complete one's life with the last act that is a singular experience. Nor do you need a Doctor there are many ways listed on the internet to help one to go peaceful into the next realm.

The laws are there for those unwilling to suffer the consequences of their decisions.

I would say that Governments should stay out of such personal decisions as long as teh person does not thrust thier decision upon other's as unwilling participants. I do still believe in consent as a prime directive.
